Alexander Isak is reportedly considering a move away from Newcastle United this summer after missing the club’s pre-season tour of Asia.
While Newcastle stated the Swedish striker was left out due to a “minor thigh injury,” sources suggest he is eager to explore his options amid interest from top European clubs.
Liverpool are understood to still hold interest in the 25-year-old, despite recently signing Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike in a £69 million deal.
Isak, who scored 27 goals in 42 appearances last season, was also absent from Newcastle’s 4-0 loss to Celtic in their first pre-season fixture.
Despite Newcastle’s insistence that Isak is not for sale, his exclusion from the tour has raised eyebrows.
Manager Eddie Howe had earlier stated that Isak would “absolutely” be part of the squad travelling to Singapore and South Korea.

Speaking after the Celtic match, Howe said: “Alex is happy at Newcastle. He loves the players he plays with, the staff, the team and I’ve never had any issue with him.” However, he also acknowledged that “it’s difficult to give 100% clarity on any player.”
Elsewhere, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has questioned the club’s official explanation for Isak’s absence, calling the injury claim “ridiculous.” Shearer criticised the lack of transparency, suggesting Newcastle should have been more upfront. “They should have just told the truth straight away,” he said. “If someone is prepared to pay north of £150 million, and if he really, really wants to go, you can’t step in his way.”
Newcastle are in a strong financial position, backed by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, and under no pressure to sell due to favourable Profit and Sustainability Rule (PSR) standings.
With Isak having three years left on his contract, the club reportedly values him at around £130 million.
While a number of Premier League clubs have shown past interest, few can meet Newcastle’s valuation.
Arsenal, previously linked, are now closing in on a move for Viktor Gyokeres. Manchester City, although financially capable, are unlikely to bid due to Erling Haaland’s long-term presence.
Chelsea have also strengthened their attack this summer with the signings of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.
Newcastle are set to face Arsenal in Singapore on Sunday before traveling to South Korea for matches against a K-League All-Star team on July 30 and Tottenham on August 3.
Defender Lewis Hall, out since February with a foot injury, has been included in the squad.
