Iheanacho Returns to Sevilla for Pre-Season Amid Uncertain Future

Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho has returned to Sevilla for pre-season training, though questions remain over his long-term future at the Spanish club.

Iheanacho joined Sevilla on a free transfer last summer but endured a difficult debut campaign, making just nine La Liga appearances without scoring a goal.

Despite his struggles in the league, the 28-year-old managed to find the net twice in the Copa del Rey, offering glimpses of his attacking potential.

In January, the former Leicester City striker was loaned out to English Championship side Middlesbrough, where he registered one goal and two assists across 15 league appearances.

Sevilla now have a new manager at the helm, with Argentine tactician Matias Almeyda taking charge ahead of the 2025/26 season. Almeyda’s arrival could offer Iheanacho a clean slate and a chance to revive his prospects at the club.

Iheanacho still has two years left on his current contract with Sevilla, and his performances during pre-season could prove pivotal in determining whether he remains part of Almeyda’s plans for the upcoming campaign.
