Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United in a deal worth £55m, subject to a work permit.
The 24-year-old has signed a six-year contract that will keep him at the North London club until 2031. Kudus had a release clause of £85m, but Spurs were able to secure his services after West Ham rejected an initial £50m offer last week.
Kudus made 65 Premier League appearances for the Hammers, scoring 13 goals and providing nine assists. Since his £38m arrival from Ajax in August 2023, he quickly became a key figure at the London Stadium.
He made his Premier League debut against Luton Town and opened his goal account in the Europa League shortly after. In all competitions during his debut season, Kudus registered 14 goals and nine assists.
Speaking to Tottenham’s media team after the announcement, Kudus said he was excited to join the club and fulfil his ambition of playing at the highest level.
“I’ve always wanted to play at the highest level,” he said. “How big the club is, the history and the Champions League as well, so it’s a big moment. I’m very happy and can’t wait to start.”
The Ghana international reportedly chose Spurs despite interest from at least six top European clubs. Sources confirmed that Kudus prioritised a move to North London, citing new head coach Thomas Frank as a key factor in his decision.
“From where [Frank] has come from, and seeing the amount of talent he has developed to become great players, it’s a big sign as to why I wanted to work under him as well,” Kudus explained.
Kudus could soon be joined at Tottenham by Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, who is expected to undergo a medical on Friday ahead of a proposed £60m move.
The transfer of Kudus is seen as a major boost to Spurs’ ambitions ahead of the new season, as the club looks to challenge for top honours under new leadership.
