Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with multiple sexual offences by the Metropolitan Police, following an investigation led by UK authorities.
In a statement released on Friday, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed it had authorised charges against Partey after reviewing a file of evidence submitted by detectives.
The 32-year-old Ghanaian footballer, whose contract with Arsenal expired earlier this week, is facing five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
“The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police Service to charge a man after a file of evidence was submitted by detectives,” the CPS stated.
“The Met has issued a charge and requisition to Thomas Partey, 32 (13/06/1992), of Hertfordshire, in connection with the following offences: five counts of rape, one count of sexual assault.”
The alleged offences are said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022 while Partey was still an active player with the North London club.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, reiterated the police’s commitment to supporting those affected.
“Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward,” Furphy said. “We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone who has information, to speak with our team.”
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the investigation team via email at CIT@met.police.uk.
Partey is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5.
