Burnley Join Race for Nigeria’s Tolu Arokodare in £25m Transfer Pursuit

Premier League newcomers Burnley have expressed strong interest in signing Nigeria international Tolu Arokodare from Belgian side Genk, as the club looks to bolster its attacking options ahead of the 2025/2026 campaign.

According to a report by The Telegraph, Burnley have registered “serious interest” in the 24-year-old striker, who finished last season as the top scorer in the Belgian Pro League with 21 goals.

Across all competitions, Arokodare netted 23 goals, drawing attention from multiple European clubs including Fulham, Manchester United, and AC Milan.

While Burnley manager Scott Parker has already added players such as goalkeeper Max Weiss and defenders Quilindschy Hartman and Axel Tuanzebe to the squad, the club is reportedly prioritising the signing of a prolific centre-forward.

Arokodare is believed to be one of the club’s top targets.

“There is understood to be serious interest in Arokodare, who has an excellent record in the Belgian Pro League with Genk,” The Telegraph noted.

However, the deal may face obstacles as Genk have placed a £25 million valuation on the Nigerian forward.

Burnley are hopeful that this figure could decrease as the transfer window progresses.

“It is understood that the clubs are apart on valuation at the moment, with Genk looking for £25 million to sell the Nigeria international,” the report added. “He has two seasons left on his contract, with Burnley hoping the asking price will lower as the summer window progresses.”

Standing at 6ft 4in, Arokodare’s combination of physical strength, speed, and goal-scoring ability has made him one of the most sought-after strikers in this summer’s market.

Meanwhile, Fulham are reported to have opened exploratory talks with the player’s representatives. Manchester United and AC Milan are also monitoring his situation closely.

Speaking recently in an interview, Arokodare shared his ambitions of playing in England, particularly for the club he grew up supporting.

“Of course, that would be a dream,” Arokodare said when asked about a possible move to Manchester United. “I’m a Manchester United fan myself, so if it happens, it would mean a lot to me and my family.

But for now, I’m still focused on playing for Genk, and that’s where my mind is at the moment.”

Arokodare’s profile rose further this season after winning the Ebony Boot, an annual award given to the best African player in the Belgian top flight.

He has also made four appearances for the Super Eagles, scoring once.

Burnley’s pursuit of Arokodare fits within the club’s wider strategy of blending emerging talent with seasoned professionals to ensure a competitive return to the Premier League.

The club is also reported to be considering experienced free agents such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Callum Wilson, and Jamie Vardy.

With the summer transfer window still open, Burnley fans will be watching closely as the club attempts to secure one of Africa’s brightest young strikers.
