Fluminense Stun Inter Milan to Set Up Club World Cup Clash with Al-Hilal

Brazilian side Fluminense pulled off a major upset with a 2-0 victory over Inter Milan, booking their spot in the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup.

German Cano wasted no time, nodding in a low header just three minutes in to give the Brazilians an early lead.

Despite constant pressure from Inter in the second half, it was substitute Hercules who sealed the win—curling in a beautiful strike from the edge of the box during a tough final 25 minutes.

Inter weren’t without their chances. Lautaro Martinez hit the post late on and had several looks at goal, while Federico Dimarco was twice denied from free-kicks and saw another close-range shot blocked.

The clearest opportunity came to Stefan de Vrij, who couldn’t convert after a smart knockdown from Martinez.

The match, played in front of just 20,030 fans at the 74,867-seater Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, marked the venue’s final game before closure.

Fluminense now join Palmeiras as the second Brazilian team in the quarter-finals, where they’ll take on Manchester City’s conquerors, Al-Hilal, this Friday at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
