Harry Kane Brace Fires Bayern Past Flamengo Into Club World Cup Quarter-Finalsm

England captain Harry Kane continued his remarkable scoring form with two goals as Bayern Munich defeated Flamengo 4–2 in a thrilling FIFA Club World Cup encounter at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

Kane’s strikes—his 40th and 41st of the season—booked Bayern’s place in the quarter-finals, where they will face European champions Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday, July 5, in Atlanta.

Flamengo, unbeaten in their last 11 matches, were stunned early when Erick Pulgar turned Joshua Kimmich’s corner into his own net in the sixth minute.

Just three minutes later, Kane doubled Bayern’s lead with a powerful low drive that took a slight deflection off Leo Ortiz.

The Brazilians responded in the 33rd minute as Gerson fired a rasping shot past Manuel Neuer to pull one back.

However, Bayern restored their two-goal cushion before the break when Leon Goretzka struck from distance, his effort deceiving goalkeeper Agustin Rossi on its way in.

Flamengo kept fighting and narrowed the deficit again early in the second half. After Michael Olise handled inside the box, Jorginho calmly sent Neuer the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Bayern sealed the win in the 72nd minute when Kane latched onto a Kimmich pass and finished clinically to cap an electric performance.

The match highlighted Kane’s influence once again, as the 31-year-old reached 40+ goals for a second consecutive season, having scored 44 in all competitions during the 2023–24 campaign.

He was one of seven changes made by manager Vincent Kompany following their midweek loss to Benfica, and his presence gave Bayern an early lift that Flamengo could not recover from.

The South American side, known for their aggressive pressing, struggled to cope with Bayern’s intensity in the opening stages.

While both teams created chances throughout, it was the Germans’ efficiency in front of goal that proved decisive.

Pulgar had a game to forget—after his early own goal, the Chilean midfielder picked up a yellow card for a reckless challenge on Kane and was later stretchered off with an injury.

Statistically, Bayern’s firepower was once again on display. They’ve now scored a staggering 154 goals in all competitions this season.

Flamengo, meanwhile, had only conceded five goals in their last 11 matches before shipping four against the German giants.

Next up, Bayern face PSG in a high-stakes quarter-final on Saturday, July 5, at 17:00 BST in Atlanta. Flamengo, who sit atop the Brazilian Serie A, return to domestic duty against Santos on Thursday, July 17 (01:30 BST).
