Kwara United Clinch Maiden President Federation Cup Title After Penalty Drama

Kwara United emerged champions of the 2025 President Federation Cup after edging past Abakaliki FC 4-3 on penalties in a tightly contested final at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos.

The final ended goalless after regulation time, with both sides unable to find a breakthrough despite moments of promise. Kwara United, known as the Harmony Boys, created the better scoring opportunities but were often let down by wasteful finishing in the final third.

Abakaliki FC, who have been relegated from the Nigeria National League and will play in the Nationwide League next season, showed resilience and grit throughout the match, holding their own against a more experienced Kwara side.

In the ensuing penalty shootout, Kwara United held their nerve to convert four of their spot-kicks, while Abakaliki FC managed three.

The victory marks a historic achievement for Kwara United, as they claim the President Federation Cup title for the first time in the club’s history.
