The countdown has officially begun, as Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, prepares to welcome the continent’s future stars to the 3rd African U18 and U20 Athletics Championships, which are now only 30 days away.
The competition, which will be held in the recently rebuilt MKO Abiola Sports Complex, promises to be a showcase of speed, strength, and emerging potential.
Over 50 countries are anticipated to attend this prestigious event, with national contingents beginning to arrive on July 12. The championship will take place from July 16 to 20, 2025.

The Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) has offered its full support to the facilities, confirming Abeokuta as ready and capable of hosting the continent’s greatest young athletes.
All eyes will be on Nigeria as it prepares for a new generation of stars to follow in the footsteps of national legends such as Falilat Ogunkoya, Mary Onyali, Olusoji Fasuba, Deji Aliyu, and Yusuf Alli, who all rose to prominence on comparable younger stages before becoming global giants.
As excitement grows, Ogun State is not only preparing for the athletics championship, but also laying the groundwork for the forthcoming WAFU B U-17 football championship, solidifying its burgeoning reputation as an elite sporting event hub in Africa.
