Intl Friendly: Russia hold Super Eagles to draw in Moscow

Russia and Nigeria had to settle for the spoils in a1-1 draw in their international friendly clash on Friday.

Russia drew the first blood by taking the lead in the 27th minute after Nigerian defender Semi Ajayi put the ball into his own net.

The Super Eagles responded in the second half through Genk striker, Tolu Arokodare, who netted the equaliser in the 71st minute to level the terms for Nigeria.

Despite being outplayed in possession — with Russia holding 58% of the ball to Nigeria’s 42% — the Super Eagles were resilient and showed they wanted the win.

Nigeria managed six shots with four on target, compared to Russia’s 10 shots with only two troubling Maduka Okoye

Russia completed 497 passes with an 87% accuracy rate, while Nigeria managed 367 passes at 81% accuracy.

The European side committed 16 fouls and received three yellow cards, while Nigeria had 11 fouls and one booking.

Both teams had four corner kicks, but Nigeria was flagged offside three times compared to Russia’s single infringement.
