Brown Ideye confirms Enyimba exit

Former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye has confirmed his departure from Nigeria Premier Football League side, Enyimba following the conclusion of the recently ended NPFL season.

The 36-year-old arrived in January at the Aba basedside, and he went on to score five goals in 13 appearances across all competitions for the Peoples Elephant, though he could not prevent the club’s exit in the group phase of the CAF Confederations Cup. The coach Stanley Eguma-led side finished sixth in the NPFL table, 16 points adrift of champions Remo Stars.

Ideye took to his official X handle to share the news, saying, “To the Chairman, Staff, my teammates and fans of Enyimba FC, thank you for the wonderful journey. It’s been an honour to wear the jersey and play for one of the biggest and best football club in Nigeria and Africa.”

“As I move on, I’m grateful for the fond memories we created together on and off the pitch, and I appreciate the love, respect and support you all gave me from day one. This club will always have a great place in my heart. With Love and Appreciation.”

Striking a deadly partnership with leading scorer Emmanuel Emenike, he was a part of the winning Super Eagles team that won the 2013 CAF Africa Cup of Nations competition in South Africa.

Ideye began his career with Bayelsa, a Nigerian side, before joining the now-defunct Ocean Boys. His European sojourn saw him ply his trade at Neuchatel Xamax, FC Sochaux of France, Dynamo Kyiv of Ukraine, West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League, Greek Super League powerhouse Olympiacos, Chinese team TJ Teda, Málaga CF, Tianjin JMT, Aria Saloniki, Goztepe in Turkey, and Al-Yarmouk SC.
