Ogun State are into the final of the football event after an exciting National Sports Festival semi-final clash between Ogun’s state men’s football side against the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria, at the MKO Abiola Sport Complex in Ikenne on Sunday.
The Golden Eaglets, playing under the Invited Junior Athletes (IJA), were defeated 2-1 by the Ogun State football team.
Ogun State will play Kwara State in the men’s football final on Tuesday at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex.
The Golden Eaglets put up a fierce fight but lost, as Team Ogun rallied from a goal down to win a fiercely contested match.
The home crowd was thrilled when the game finished 2-1 in favor of the hosts, and they will be even more excited when the final is played in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
Elsewhere, Ogun State’s female football team also played against the Flamingos, who were also competing as Invited junior Athletes, but it was the invited athletes who prevailed 1-0 over the hosts.
Shakirat Moshood’s penalty was the difference between the two sides.
Kwara State also advanced to the final with a 1-0 victory over Kaduna State in the first semi-final.
The decisive moment came in the 62nd minute when Muhammed Abdullahi found the back of the net, ensuring Kwara’s progression.
The stage is now set for an exciting showdown between Team Ogun and Kwara State, while the Golden Eaglets and Kaduna State will battle for bronze in the third-place match.
The men’s and women’s football final of the 22nd National Sports Festival, has been moved to the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta.
