After his final La Liga game with Real Madrid against Real Sociedad, Carlo Ancelotti will officially take over as head coach of the Brazil national team on May 26.
The 65-year-old Italian is Brazil’s first foreign appointment to the men’s dugout, according to sports journalist David Ornstein.
“Contracts have been signed and agreements made for him to be the first foreign player to be appointed to the men’s dugout in Brazil.”
“Ancelotti had a year left on his terms at the Bernabeu but a deal was confirmed following cordial talks between all parties, facilitated and led by Diego Fernandes on behalf of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).
“Among the most successful managers in football history, Ancelotti is to pick up Brazil’s 2026 World Cup qualification campaign, with the aim of a record-extending sixth triumph at the finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico,” the report stated.
Ancelotti’s first game in charge will be a World Cup qualifier against Ecuador on June 6th, as Brazil continue their campaign toward a record-extending sixth World Cup title in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Ancelotti re-joined Madrid in 2021 and has added two La Liga titles and a Champions League trophy to his decorated managerial career, which includes eight major European finals.
However, Madrid’s recent form has fallen short of expectations, with a quarter-final Champions League exit to Arsenal, a Copa del Rey final loss to Barcelona, and a seven-point gap behind Hansi Flick’s side in La Liga with three games remaining.
He will replace Dorival Junior, who was dismissed in March after 14 months in charge.
