Unity Cup: Ahmed Musa to return to Super Eagles fold

Kano Pillars forward, Ahmed Musa, is set to make a return to the national team as he is expected to lead the Super Eagles at the Unity Cup exhibition tournament, which will takes place from May 26 to 31, in the United Kingdom.

Kano Pillars revealed via a statement on their official X account on Monday “Captain Ahmed Musa is set to lead the Super Eagles at the Unity Cup Four-Nation Tourney from May 26-31, 2025, at Brentford Stadium, London.”

“Musa has been in top form for Sai Masu Gida, with eight goals and two assists in the ongoing 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League.”

The last time Ahmed Musa represented the Super Eagles was against Guinea during a pre-AFCON 2023 friendly on January 8, 2024.

He was at the AFCON in Ivory Coast but didn’t feature at all in Nigeria’s silver-winning outing.

Musa, who has been a regular feature for the Super Eagles for over a decade, is currently one of the top performers in the NPFL – netting eight times and providing two assists.

The Nigeria Football Federation is yet to release the official squad for the tournament, although it is being speculated that the tournament would be prosecuted by mostly home-based players.

Nigeria are set to play in the exhibition tournament against rivals Ghana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago at the G-tech Community Stadium, the home ground of Premier League side Brentford.

The Super Eagles will play Ghana in their first game of the tournament on Wednesday, May 28 after Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago’s opening game on Tuesday, May 27.
