2025 World Cup Qualifiers: Flamingoes get one hand on Morocco 2025 ticket

Nigeria women U-17, affectionately known as the flamingoes, took a step closer to making an 8th appearance at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup after defeating Algeria U-17 side, 4-0 at the Ikenne Stadium in Sagamu.

A brace from Queen Joseph in the 1st and 17th minute, coupled with Zainab Raji’s effort in the 13th minute, set the young ladies on their way to victory before half-time.

Substitute, Aishat Animashaun added a late goal in the 90th minute to condemn the ALgeria U17 women side to a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of the flamingoes.

The return leg will be decided at the Stade Mustapha Tchaker in Blida outside Algiers on Friday, 25th April, 2025, with the winner on aggregate set to qualify as one of Africa’s five representatives at this year’s FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup finals in Morocco.

According to a Nigerian Journalist on X, Adepoju Tobi Samuel, He explained that the President of the NFF, Ibrahim Gusau had announced a cash gift of the sum of six million Naira for the girls. He explained that the sum of 2 million naira was from the NFF while Billionaire and owner of Remo Stars, Hon Kunle Soname, parted away with the sum of four million naira also as a gift. Gusau also admonished the girls to “go to Algiers and play your hearts out to win the World Cup ticket for Nigeria”.
