Quadri Aruna of Nigeria, who is now rated 18th in the week 12 rating that was revealed yesterday, Tuesday 18th March, 2025, has surpassed Omar Assar of Egypt to become Africa’s top-ranked player in the world.

Omar Assar fell from 17th to 19th in the most recent ranking, while Aruna rose from 19th in week 11 to 18th.
Aruna’s strong showing at this year’s WTT tournaments has raised his ranking, even though he placed second in the 2025 ITTF Africa Cup.
In January of this year, Aruna repeated his 2023 achievement and is now the only male African player to have advanced to the WTT Contender Doha semifinals.

This accomplishment helped him surpass Assar, who defeated him to win the 2025 ITTF Africa Cup. From March 23 to 20, Aruna will compete in the WTT Contender Chennai, which will take place in India, with the prize money set at 275 thousand Dollars.

Hana Goda of Egypt moved up one spot to 26th in the week 12 ITTF rating, maintaining her top status in Africa in the women’s singles. Dina Meshref, her countrywoman, was still regarded as the second-best female player in Africa, staying at 33rd.
