Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has reflected on his unsuccessful transfer to Manchester United in 2012.
At that time, Lewandowski was with Borussia Dortmund and expressed his desire to join the Premier League club. Nevertheless, the Bundesliga team declined to approve the transfer.
“I agreed to join Manchester United because when Sir Alex Ferguson reaches out, it is an opportunity you cannot refuse,” Lewandowski stated during an appearance on the FIVE UK podcast.
He also recounted his discussion with Dortmund’s president, who informed him of his significance to the team, stating, “They need me. They will not sell me to Manchester United because I hold great importance for them.”
