Ligue 1 giant, PSG remain locked up in a tug of war with former star player Kylian Mbappe over unpaid wages following his summer exit to Real Madrid.
The 25-year-old who spent seven successful years at the Parc des Princes, breaking the club’s all-time scoring record with 256 goals had been given victory in this dispute by the LFP but the club aren’t willing to succumb to the decision due to a pre-existing gentle man agreement between both parties.
The unpaid wages and bonuses is estimated at €55 million with the dispute believed to have stemmed from Mbappe’s decision to remain at PSG after initially indicating his intention to leave for Real Madrid.
According to reports from MD, PSG withheld payments after learning of Mbappe’s plans, citing an alleged verbal agreement that the player would forego a portion of his salary if he departed at the end of his contract.
Despite the LFP’s ruling, PSG remains adamant that a verbal agreement existed and has indicated its intent to appeal the decision in court. While the club claims to be seeking an amicable resolution, the ongoing legal battle highlights the deteriorating relationship between Mbappe and his former club.
The situation has been further exacerbated by Mbappe’s recent allegations of a smear campaign orchestrated by PSG to tarnish his image which involves a rape rumor while he was in Sweden which has since gone quiet in recent times although there are reports that the issue is still being investigated by the police.
This ongoing dispute negates Mbappe’s claim back in January that he had reached an agreement with PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi to ‘safeguard the interests of all parties involved and maintain a calm environment for the club’s future endeavors’.
With PSG not willing to back down and Mbappe not ready to forgo his salary, the dispute will now be moved to court as stated by the club.
