Nigerian quartet of Enugu Rangers Football Club, El-Kanemi Warriors, Enyimba Int’l FC and Remo Stars Sports Club are set for huge CAF’S $50,000 pay-out in a latest development from African football governing body CAF.
Nigerian champions Enugu Rangers and runners-up Remo Stars are representing the country in the Champions League, while Enyimba, who finished third in the NPFL, and President Federation Cup winners El Kanemi Warriors are competing in the Confederation Cup.
The body announced the new monetary reward in a statement on Friday.
“In line with the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) President Dr Patrice Motsepe’s promise to improve club competitions and provide more financial assistance to clubs, the clubs participating in the preliminary stages of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup will receive USD 50,000 each,” the continental football body stated on its website.
The significant step addresses the long-standing concerns from clubs on the travelling and logistical costs associated escalating playing in club continental football as this initiative is set to complement the existing prize money structure for later stages of both competitions as also revealed by CAF .
This move is expected to incentivize more clubs to participate in continental competitions and raise the overall standard of club football in Africa.
Meanwhile, the start of the 2024/25 Inter-club Season got off to a flying start today, 16 August with six fixtures mark the start of what promises to be another thrilling season of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
