Veteran tennis player Andy Murray has officially confirmed his exit from the grand stage in an unexpected fashion, conceding that the 2024 Paris Olympics games will be his last major competition of his career.

The 37-year old who withdrew from Wimbledon singles championship that took place two weeks ago having failed to recover from a spinal cyst injury is bringing an end to his illustrious 17- year career.

Three times Wimbledon champion and two times Olympic gold medalist, the stalwart tennis legend is set to compete in the singles and doubles tournament in Paris, marking a remarkable fifth Olympics appearance that began in 2008 at Beijing.

Andy Murray shared on his official X aaccount with the post: Arrived in Paris for my last ever tennis tournament @Olympics Competing for Great Britain have been by far the most memorable weeks of my career and I’m extremely proud to get do it one final time!”.

He had earlier hinted at a looming end when he played with his brother Jamie earlier this year, revealing, “I’m ready to finish playing. I don’t want that to be the case. I would love to play, like I said, forever. But, today, even though it was a doubles match where physically it’s obviously not as demanding, it’s still really hard for me”, as culled from the New York Times.

With a career defined by iconic moments, his golden triumph over Roger Federer at London 2012 is etched in tennis folklore. Four years later, he cemented his legacy as a tennis great by defeating Juan Martin del Potro for a second Olympic singles gold, a feat unmatched by any other male player.

Adding to his extraordinary resume, he also broke a British drought by winning Wimbledon in 2013, ending a 77-year wait since Fred Perry’s victory.
