23rd National Sports Festival: Enugu State Intensifies Preparations Following Strategic Meeting with NSC DG Olopade

Preparations are in full gear for the 23rd edition of the National Sports Festival, with Enugu State poised to deliver a memorable sporting spectacle. The Coal City is actively positioning itself to host a world-class event that will spotlight Nigeria’s athletic prowess and reinforce national unity.

As part of strategic engagements toward early planning and seamless execution, the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, paid a working visit to the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, at the Government House in Enugu on Tuesday.

During the visit, Governor Mbah reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to hosting an exceptional edition of the festival—one that would not only celebrate sports but also serve as a catalyst for youth development and national cohesion.

In a major development, the Governor approved the composition of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), which is set to be formally inaugurated on Wednesday. The committee is made up of experienced professionals with strong track records in sports administration, youth engagement, and strategic planning—further reinforcing Enugu’s readiness to deliver a smooth and impactful festival.

Enugu secured the hosting rights for the 23rd National Sports Festival after a keenly contested bidding process. The event, slated for 2026, is expected to attract thousands of athletes, coaches, officials, and sports enthusiasts from across the nation.

Speaking after the meeting, Hon. Olopade expressed confidence in the State’s preparedness, stating:

“The National Sports Festival is more than just a competition; it’s a legacy project that transforms host cities. Enugu has shown impressive readiness and political will, which are the ingredients for success. We’re confident in their ability to deliver.”
