Thirty-three countries across six continents have now officially secured their places at the expanded 48-team 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to the latest qualification updates following Thursday’s fixtures.
Africa already has nine teams confirmed for the tournament, while Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo remain in contention through the ongoing continental playoffs to determine who advances to the intercontinental round.

The Leopards of DR Congo will face the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Sunday in the final of the African playoffs after both teams recorded crucial victories in Rabat, Morocco.
DR Congo defeated Cameroon 1–0 in the second semi-final at the Stade El Barid, while Nigeria powered past Gabon 4–1 after extra time at the Moulay Hassan Stadium to reach the decisive tie.
The winner of Sunday’s clash will advance to the six-team intercontinental playoffs scheduled to take place in Mexico in March 2026, where the final two slots for the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States will be determined.
